Day 172: Don't get too excited now...

Hello my friends, I've been asked lately what really piss me off, because some people that know many more and some less said I keep a constant poker face all the time, and They don't see me angry or too upset or too happy...I wonder why? :-)

Maybe its just the way I always been or maybe its cipralex, honestly? I couldn't care less. Inside i'm happy and everything is 100% under control, I have no panic attacks, no anxiety and no depression from months now...so i'm feeling good.

I haven't told my girlfriend about cipralex yet, I'm meeting my doctor in couple of days and I'll ask him again when can i stop taking the pills, not that I mind - I have no side effects at all, its just that I hate the fact that i'm hiding this from everyone around me.



So many things have changed...and I like being numb...because my numb state is everyone's else normal state :-)

I've read some comments asking about caffeine and cipralex, I can tell you that I drink a lot of coffee(I love coffee) and I had no problems with it, but than again, in the first months you should lower your coffee consumption.

Ok, just wanted to update you guys about how I'm doing...

Great blog - I'm in week 4 of cipralex...no one seems to understand the numbing feeling...I feel just as worried,, but no depression or physical symptoms of anxiety..its like something physically stopping me from feeling sad.

But, when certain situations arise, I get the burning sensation in my neck...

Great blog. I'm a bug fan. Am on my 14th day on Cipralex 10mg. The first 4 days I took 5 mg. Feeling better already and feel that numbness sometimes that covera my anxiety. Still work in progress until the mess fully kick in as you have very well documented.

Please keep on writing and let us know if you decide to continue, decrease or stop the mess.

it's day 9 for me and still going and coming in the same time .. Dr told me u will be fine after two weeks but still feeling I need more time .. some time I start to think with my self but it end very badly always complain about what I'm doing but I hope everything's will be good one day and I trust GOD will help to get over it ..

Hi...I have just been described cipralex and I'm really nervous about starting to take it because I work Monday to Friday and I don't want to have side effects at work. What can I expect? I do realize everyone is different and what is this numbness that has been mentioned???

If you are prescribed this med by your doctor, I recommend you take it. The first few weeks are not going to be pleasant, as the side effects are strong but as your body adjusts and the med builds up in your body you will feel better and you should start to feel getting better in 2+ weeks. Everyone reacts differently so i hope you won't have bad side effects. You can also speak to your doc about starting with 5mg for a week and ramp up to your prescribed dose. This will delay the time the med will reach it's therapeutic levels however will make your body adjust with less severe side effects.

With regards to the numbness I am only assuming it could be 2 things. First, when the med kicks in, things that used to bother/depress/rev you up no longer will, creating a feeling of numbness. Second, as a side effect sometimes you might feel out of it and kind of numb. Again, those are just my explanations of what people might rear to numbness.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with all of us. I for one am grateful too have found this blog. I just took my first 5 mg. a few minutes ago and it was harder taking the pill than realizing I needed it. My anxiety had me concerned with everything under the sun but now I can look forward to feeling better. I will continue to check back and read about everyone's progress and will share my experiences as well.

Wow this is a great blog. My doctor told me the side effects were almost nothing, I'm at day 3 right now and man I can definitely feel when the pill kicks into effect. It's quite overwhelming and I get slightly panicky, I've noticed that I wake up at night very panicky however I take anivan to calm me down. I'm suffering from social anxiety which my doctor says. It's kinda strange because I work in sales and talk to strangers and people all the time? I'm gonna continue to take the pills for the month and see how I feel.

I'm really happy I found this blog too...I also have social anxiety. I'm thinking of starting the pill tomorrow (saturday) because I don't go back to work until Monday. I'm really worried about feeling "high" or more anxious. I don't think I could deal with that at work. I am starting at 5mg. I cannot wait for it to start working...I've been living with this for so long. It almost seems too good to be true.

Hi: I'm on my 4th year of taking cipralex. I have used other anti-depressants but have had the best success with cipralex. I have suffered from anxiety and depression since I was 7 years old. It can take 3 to 6 months to really feel the benefits. I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder. My current episode began in 2002. Hang in there the initial side effects do pass but can take from 2 to 6 weeks. Slowly lessening as you go.

I have been taking Cipralex for 6 months now and I never had the "numb" feeling. When I feel happy, I feel REALLLYYYYY happy, and people can see it. On the other side of the spectrum, I'm almost never sad. So this side effect tends to affect only ceratin patients, I would say...

I am on Day 3 (just took my 3 10mg). I started on Wed morning at work, as I could not wait to get moving on my healing. It took me almost 18 years of different bouts of depression and self destructive behaviour to realize that if I had been willing to use street drugs when I was younger to dull the pain, why in the world would I not be willing to try a legal and well tested route!?. I have felt somewhat like I used to when having first taken some extacy, or was coming down—kind of jittery, a little excited, happier, with some anxiousness. My doctor advised that if the cipralex has a sedative effect, to take it at night, but if it is a stimulating effect to take it in the morning. Definitely a morning drug for me. I have found my sleep to be restless for the last two nights, and I actually woke up at 5:30 this morning and jumped up ready to go.
I am still drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, and I had a couple of pints at lunch yesterday with no adverse reaction.
So far, so good; though, I am not sure how much of my positive thought is psychosomatic (just knowing that I have chosen to find a prescription to happiness, I feel happier) or the drug is quickly picking me up.
I will not rely only on the drug though, and will see a counsellor for my cognitive difficulties and have been referred to a specialist for adult ADD testing... man, I am heading down an interesting path at 37. I have to say, a week ago, I felt sure that I was about to lose my job, my wife and kids, and likely my life, but now, I know that there is an alternative road.

Funny side effect for me, I am month 3, symtoms were the usual, but funny one for me was no urge to drink alcohal infact the smell repulses me. Kind of like Wellbutrin for Cigarettes. I did drink a nice white wine in the yard and suffered huge for it as I had a MONSTER migrain and resulted to acupunture to get rid of it. I didnt want to take something due to my body was still adjusting to Cipralex. OH FYI the acupunture worked so well, I will never take another pill for my migrians again.
Anyways, thought Id share my experience.

Thats funny you say that because some people say SSRIs were making them crave more alcohol than usual.

I was taking 5mg Cipralex for about 2 months but realized I need to take the standard dose so I just started taking 10mg about a week and a half to 2 weeks ago.

Yesterday I felt a little over-excited and panicky before going to a concert which is weird because I was happy about going, but my excitement kind of turned into panic and anxiety? Maybe its still the Cipralex 10mg working, who knows. I too have cut down on my alcohol consumption a lot.

I am on month 2 of 10mg Cipralex, and havent noticed much side effects other than occassional dry mouth and weird hot flashes in the bottom of my foot...strange, yes. Also, I took myself off the drug for a couple of days early in my second month and went through an evening of confusion, dizziness and lightheadedness but I feel fine again now that I am back on them. So far so good but dont know how ill be feeling after my 4 months are up!
